Rubrics that Define Each Skill in Detail
Each skill in each manual is defined in detail by a rubric. A rubric is a task analysis, in list form, of important criteria for a particular skill. Rubrics are used to clarify expectations, simplify IEP goal-writing, focus instruction, and enhance data collection.
A rubric consists of four major elements (see sample rubric):
- The rubric title—skill on which the rubric focuses.
- The major criteria—major characteristics of the skill.
- The subcriteria—details of the major criteria.
- The scale—date each major criterion is met or if a particular major criterion is not applicable.
