Meet the expectations of Indicator 13
Participants learn to use Targeting Transition material to assist them in helping their students establish postsecondary goals, use age-appropriate assessments, determine the measurable transition goals, and determine needed transition services.
Identify transition needs
Participants learn to use the Transition Needs Survey, included in each transition rubrics manual, to work with the IEP team to identify a student’s transition strengths, needs, and priorities in order to develop both a multi-year plan and a plan for the immediate year.
Determine how needs will be met
Participants learn how to manage the learning of transition needs by using the transition rubrics included in each of the four transition rubrics manuals to (1) write measurable goals and teach the skills in the special education classroom or (2) guide the student into situations where he or she can learn or receive the skill as transition services
Use the rubrics to write measurable goals
Participants learn to analyze transition rubrics to determine the details that will be included in a student’s measurable goal for a specific skill. Participants also learn how to use the transition rubrics to word measurable goals in a more measurable manner.
Use rubrics to manage transition services
Participants learn how to use the transition rubrics to communicate with regular education teachers, in-school service providers, out-of-school service providers, and parents to communicate a student’s needs and desired outcomes of each particular transition service.
Use the rubrics to teach measurable goals
Participants learn how to use the transition rubrics to define, communicate, teach, and collect data for skills identified as measurable goals.
Use transition activities to teach transition skills
Participants learn how to access and use the Targeting Transition activities to teach transition skills for higher-functioning students and students with moderate disabilities. Online access to Activities for Transition is included in training.
Use rubrics to collect data and determine when goals are met
Participants learn how to use the RubricMaker software to turn transition rubrics into data collection tools and to use the data collection tools to collect data and determine when goals have been met.
Track transition progress over multiple years
Participants learn to use the Targeting Transition Progress Report form, included in each transition rubrics manual, to document transition progress for students over multiple years. Participants also learn to use the Targeting Transition Progress Report form as “bookends” of a student’s transition portfolio in which they place the hard copy documentation of a student’s transition progress and results.
